CES: 10 New NES Third Party Licensees Announced

One of the biggest assets Nintendo has in its arsenal is its third party licensee program. Game companies from around the world are lining up to create games for the NES, and at this year’s CES we were surprised to find out that the amount of companies working on Nintendo games has tripled! Overnight we went from five licensees (Bandai, Capcom, Data East, Konami, and SNK) to fifteen. So, which companies have signed on? The newcomers are:

  • Acclaim
  • Activision
  • Broderbund
  • FCI
  • Irem
  • LJN Toys
  • Romstar
  • Sunsoft
  • Taito America
  • Tecmo

We are in the process of getting a finalized list of games in development at each company. We should have more information in the next few days! We’re told to expect the NES gaming library to expand to about 100 games by Christmas this year.
