Launching on the last day of March in the U.S., Nintendo’s first smart device application, Miitomo, appears to be performing well. Independent research from SurveyMonkey puts the app at over 4 million monthly active users. Over 2.6 million copies of the app were downloaded for free last week alone. The average user spends about 8 minutes a day interacting with the app.
This leads to the monetization side of things. The big question is whether or not Miitomo can make Nintendo some money. It appears that may be the case with and estimated $40,000 coming in every single day. 80% of that revenue comes from iOS devices and the rest from Android. Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Miitomo can continue generating cash at this level or higher. Many people in my circles have already ditched the app or only check in every few days and no one I know has spent any real money to buy outfits. Nintendo may need to act quickly by adding in more functionality and options to keep users interested.
Have you downloaded Miitomo? If so, how are you liking it, and do you see yourself spending any money to purchase in-game items? Let us know below in the comments or via e-mail.
