As many of our readers are no doubt aware, Dragon Quest VIII originally released on the PlayStation 2 over ten years ago. It was a fantastic game then, and it still is now, especially with some of the new enhancements added to the 3DS version. We already introduced the two new playable characters yesterday, but there’s even more improvements.
Players can enjoy a smoother journey with the removal of random encounters. That’s right, now the enemies will appear on the overworld, so it’s up to you to decide whether or not to do battle. There is a new combat speed toggle that allows the battles to move along faster than ever. Another new addition is that characters now regain their HP & MP when they level up.
There’s also a brand new photo mode in the game that will allow players to strike a pose and add special borders and other stickers. These can then be shared with others via StreetPass to unlock special items. Tons of other small enhancements are now part of the game, such as being able to save where you are, new story cutscenes, and a new dungeon.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King releases on the Nintendo 3DS on January 20, 2017. Our preview contains more videos, screens, and information.
