Nintendo eShop Digital Download Thursdays

This has got to be the lowest number of releases on the eShop in any given week in a very long time. I can’t remember the last time only two games were on the docket, but here we are.

The first one up is Mario Kart 64 for the Wii U Virtual Console. It’s by far my most played Mario Kart game of all time, which is natural given I was living in the college dorms playing 4-player split-screen every chance I could. It’s a fantastic game with lots of great courses and it’s just plain fun. Sure, the graphics don’t hold up to today’s technology and it’s a bit sluggish, but if given the chance I think most people will still find enjoyment with it. Plus, it has the best battle mode of any of the Mario Kart games.

The second, and last, game to release today on the eShop is for 3DS. Originally released on Super Nintendo, Castlevania Dracula X is a classic side-scrolling action game starring Richter Belmont. It’s the prequel to Symphony of the Night and is a somewhat rare game that should look great on the New 3DS in Pixel Perfect mode. It’s not as good as the P.C. Engine Dracula X, but I doubt that will make it out on the 3DS as TurboGrafx games haven’t transitioned to the portable.

That’s it for this week! Feel free to read the official press release below:
