Interest In Nintendo Switch Eclipses Wii U

Daniel Ahmad (ZhugeEX on Twitter) did a little research and found out that the Nintendo Switch is performing much better in Google search results than the Wii U ever did. When looking up the number searches for Pre order Switch versus Pre Order Wii U, the historical data shows that the Switch is up to 80% higher than the Wii U ever was at its height. The graph below also reveals how the Switch compares to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One searches:

While this isn’t rocket science and doesn’t mean the Nintendo Switch will be successful, it is interesting to note that the PS4 had about double the number of searches than Xbox One did. The PS4 has gone on to sell about double the consoles. The Wii U had about 20% of the PS4 searches at its height and has gone on to sell about 20% of what the PS4 has currently sold. Sure, it’s most likely coincidental, but the trends are there and this could point to a strong Switch debut. If that happens, it’s up to Nintendo to continue the sales upward to keep the momentum going.

Time will tell if this is a good predictor of what’s to come. For Nintendo’s sake, I hope so.
